Deputy Minister Pham Minh Ha urged contractors to speed up work on Package 4.8 of Long Thanh Airport’s Phase 1, warning that delays in building underground infrastructure could affect the overall project schedule and hinder key milestone targets.

On April 24, Deputy Minister Ha led an inspection team to review progress at the construction site of Package 4.8, which includes internal roads and technical infrastructure. The inspection was attended by representatives of the State Council for Construction Acceptance, the Ministry of Construction’s specialized agencies, and relevant project stakeholders.

According to reports presented at the site, although contractors have mobilized machinery, labor, and materials, the underground utility systems—such as drainage pipes, technical trenches, and box culverts—have seen slow progress. These components are critical for connecting Package 4.8 to adjacent packages, including 4.9 and 5.10, which involve airport terminals and control towers.

Deputy Minister Ha emphasized the importance of completing major underground works before the rainy season and urged close coordination among contractors, consultants, and the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to resolve site conflicts and accelerate implementation.

“The goal is to complete essential items by June 30 and finalize the entire package by December 31. Any delays could affect subsequent packages and the overall commissioning of the airport”, he said.

Representatives of the State Council for Construction Acceptance stressed the need to ensure both technical quality and safety, noting that the project must meet international aviation standards. ACV and contractors pledged to review their construction plans and mobilize additional resources to meet the target deadlines.

Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project is a national priority and is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport once operational. Package 4.8 is vital to connecting the airport’s core functional zones and enabling synchronized operation upon commissioning.
