Vietnam seeks to master core technologies for future high-speed rail development
Minister Tran Hong Minh called for Vietnam to master core high-speed rail technologies through breakthrough research, aiming to develop strategic railway products under Vietnamese brands and support the country’s future modern rail network.
On May 15, at the Ministry of Construction headquarters, Minister Tran Hong Minh chaired a meeting with representatives from ministries, research institutes, universities and businesses. He stressed that scientific and technological research in the construction sector must be breakthrough-driven and capable of generating strategic technologies with practical value.

Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh speaks at a meeting on strategic high-speed rail technology development on May 15.
According to the minister, research related to strategic railway technologies remains new and highly complex under Vietnam’s conditions, requiring systematic and in-depth studies to gradually master foundational and core technologies.
"We must innovate our thinking, boldly conduct research and develop technological products carrying Vietnamese national brands," the minister said.
Research tasks will focus on three railway categories: high-speed rail, electrified railways and urban rail systems. Priority areas include technical standards and regulations, surveying and construction technologies, materials and components, testing systems, digital databases and workforce training.
The minister requested assigned units to prepare detailed research proposals, cost estimates, implementation roadmaps and research teams before submitting them to the Ministry of Construction for consolidation and reporting to competent authorities.
The ministry will also establish a scientific council to review research topics, monitor implementation progress and assess overall results to ensure projects meet practical requirements and implementation schedules.
