(Construction) - YKK AP has developed curtain wall units for mid-rise buildings, with a height of approximately 60 meters.
These units, processed and assembled in the factory, including glass installation, are finished products, significantly reducing on-site assembly work. By enabling scaffold-free construction, the installation time for curtain walls is shortened to about one-third compared to conventional methods. The product will be launched on April 30. The company aims for orders of 1 billion yen in the fiscal year 2024 and 4 billion yen in 2030.

YKK AP introduces innovative curtain wall units for mid-rise buildings, significantly reducing construction time |
The developed "SYSTEMA 81u" conducts aluminum member, glass, and fire-resistant board installation tasks traditionally performed on construction sites in the factory, delivering finished units to the site. This allows scaffold-free construction during crane hoisting of units. By eliminating scaffold setup, the installation time for approximately 1000 square meters of curtain wall can be reduced to one-third.
The units also comply with fire protection requirements. The window frames can be fire-resistant certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and glass options include wired or heat-resistant glass. Suitable for urban buildings at risk of fire spreading from adjacent buildings, the units unify the appearance between fire-resistant and non-fire-resistant areas to consider both design and views.
Traditionally, the method of installing completed curtain wall units has been adopted in high-rise and super-high-rise buildings where scaffolding cannot be installed. In mid-rise buildings, the "knockdown method," which involves assembling components from external scaffolding, has been mainstream. (2023/02/05)
