Chairing a meeting on June 2 to review investment plans for the project, the Minister described the route as the country’s backbone transport corridor and a key driver of economic competitiveness.
Minister Tran Hong Minh chairs a meeting on plans to expand the eastern North–South Expressway.
He noted that the expressway connects Viet Nam’s two largest economic hubs, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, while serving as a strategic corridor linking major economic regions across the country.
The Minister directed project management units and consultants to continue refining research reports, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of investment needs, traffic demand, operational conditions and future transport growth.
He also requested a thorough evaluation of the project’s regional and national socio-economic impacts to support the selection of an appropriate investment plan.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the expansion will be implemented in a synchronized manner across sections of the eastern North–South Expressway from Mai Son to Ho Chi Minh City.
"The expansion and upgrading program should be completed by the end of 2030," Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized.
