The Ministry of Construction held a conference on September 10 to review the implementation of Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and progress on its 100-day action plan to address bottlenecks in digital transformation.
Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh called for science and technology research to deliver practical products.
Reviewing science, technology and innovation initiatives under Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, Minister Tran Hong Minh said agencies and units had carried out 37 major strategic tasks in recent years.
Building on these efforts, the Ministry has been reviewing and mobilizing agencies, businesses and universities to participate in research, with an initial focus on two key areas: high-speed rail and urban rail.
The Minister called for a thorough review of 180 selected science and technology research projects to identify practical tasks with strong potential for application.
The projects should undergo comprehensive assessments of their scientific merit and practical applicability before being introduced at the Innovation Center.
He also stressed the need for a rigorous process to commercialize research outcomes. Following assessment and evaluation, research products should be made available on digital platforms, contributing to a sector-wide database on science, technology and innovation.
According to the Minister, scientific research must produce concrete products with practical value and the potential to compete in the market.
This would help make effective use of intellectual resources and public funding, while avoiding a situation in which research is completed and evaluated but ultimately left unused.
Minister Tran Hong Minh also emphasized the importance of closely linking science, technology and innovation with education and training.
Research institutes and universities should regard scientific research as a core task while improving the quality of teaching staff and training programs. New research findings should be incorporated into curricula, giving students and trainees access to technologies already being applied in practice.
The Minister noted that many advanced construction technologies and methods used around the world have yet to be adequately incorporated into training programs in Vietnam’s construction sector.
Training institutions should therefore proactively study and adopt new technologies to ensure graduates are equipped with practical knowledge.
He also urged research institutes and universities to strengthen links with construction practice and conduct research to master new technologies used in construction projects, including deep-basement construction, robotics, advanced materials, equipment and engineering solutions.
Learning from real-world practice, he said, should become an important part of research and training. Research institutes and universities should gain direct exposure to construction sites, study technologies being deployed in practice, turn those experiences into knowledge, update curricula and develop new science and technology research tasks.
