Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy on November 27 held a working session with Kim Yong-Seok, Chairman of the Urban Transport Committee under South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), to discuss opportunities for deeper cooperation in urban rail development.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy meets with South Korean representatives to discuss cooperation in urban rail development.
Kim Yong-Seok highlighted the strong Vietnam–South Korea partnership built over the past three decades, particularly in railways and urban development. He noted that during the MOLIT Minister’s visit to Vietnam in March 2025, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on railway cooperation, creating a solid foundation for further collaboration in urban rail. South Korea, he affirmed, stands ready to support ODA mobilization for Vietnam’s urban rail projects.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy emphasized that bilateral cooperation has achieved significant progress, with South Korea now the largest FDI investor in Vietnam, the second-largest bilateral ODA provider and the third-largest trading partner. He stressed that urban rail is a key solution to congestion in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other major urban centers, while Vietnam still faces shortages of skilled personnel and financing.
He welcomed South Korea’s proposal for closer cooperation, encouraging Korean enterprises to explore investment in full rail lines and apply the urban corridor development and operation model. The Ministry of Construction, he reaffirmed, will continue facilitating Korean businesses operating in Vietnam to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Both sides agreed to expand information exchange and accelerate concrete cooperation to make the partnership increasingly substantive and effective.
