Viet Nam and China signed two railway cooperation agreements during Party General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to China from April 14 to 17, witnessed by senior leaders of both countries.

The agreements include a memorandum of understanding between Viet Nam’s Ministry of Construction and China’s National Development and Reform Commission on railway training cooperation. The initiative aims to enhance the capacity and technical expertise of Viet Nam’s railway workforce.
In addition, the two sides completed the handover of project documentation for an aid-funded initiative supporting Viet Nam in preparing the feasibility study for the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong railway line.
The railway agreements were part of a broader package of cooperation documents signed across multiple sectors, including trade, customs, security, education and transport, reflecting the growing depth of bilateral ties.
Over the past decade, Viet Nam has been China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and, in recent years, one of its top global partners. China has also remained Viet Nam’s biggest trading partner, underscoring strong economic interdependence.
The visit is expected to open new directions for cooperation in infrastructure, supply chains and technology, with both sides aiming to strengthen long-term development partnerships.
